Module 01

The manager's role and neurodiversity overview

Name seven neurodivergent conditions and describe their workplace traits. Explain the manager's legal duty. Articulate the human and business case for neurodiversity-aware management.

Recognising neurodivergent traits at work

Explain the spikey profile and its implications for performance. Identify executive, sensory and communication challenges. Distinguish between a neurodivergent trait and a performance or attitude issue.

Reasonable adjustments

Explain the legal duty and the consequence of refusal. Categorise and suggest adjustments. Apply the five-step conversation framework. Know when and how to involve HR.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, you'll be able to:

  • Identify common neurodivergent conditions and explain how their traits present in a workplace context
  • Explain the legal duty of reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010, when it applies, and the legal consequence of refusal
  • Apply a co-creation framework to agree, document and review reasonable adjustments in partnership with an individual
  • Demonstrate confident, empathetic language in disclosure and performance conversations
  • Explain the legal risk of managing performance before reasonable adjustments are in place
  • Recognise how neurodivergent profiles are individual and adapt management approaches accordingly
  • Build the psychological safety practices that enable neurodivergent employees to thrive
